Graduate Paths

There are six paths, or areas of specialization, within the Department of Chemistry. Follow the links for more detailed information about each path. All six paths offer both master's and Ph.D. degree options. On their application, students must rank the paths based on their strongest current research interest, where 1 indicates the preferred path. Faculty in this path will evaluate the student's application. However, students may change paths once in the program. Students are also encouraged to collaborate with faculty members in additional paths or even in other departments.

Each path sponsors spring graduate student recruiting weekends. Students granted admission to the Department of Chemistry are invited to visit UW-Madison to participate in these events. More information is sent to students following admission to the chemistry graduate program.
